The Challenge: A Good System That Hit Its Limit

Kalos Church launched in 2017 with Tithe.ly as their digital giving provider.

“We never had any issues with Tithe.ly… it worked,” shared Andrew Jennings, who serves as both the worship and finance lead at Kalos. “They didn’t charge anything upfront… just fees per transaction. We were happy with them.”

But as giving increased and their vision expanded—Andrew began to notice something:

“I started hearing about Overflow… it felt like I had always had an Android, but there’s an iPhone out there. They’re cutting edge.”

When he first evaluated Overflow, the cost felt like a blocker. But after rerunning the numbers, it became clear that the upfront cost was more than offset by savings at scale.

Tithe.ly was like 3.2% per credit card transaction. Overflow was 2.1%… now that we’re north of a million, it actually is cheaper to pay the fee because of the lesser transaction fee.”

Pastor Pradeepan, Kalos’ lead pastor, met Overflow’s founder Vance Roush at an event in New York. That connection planted the seed. Later, Andrew attended a breakout session on AI led by Vance and left with clarity.

“He’s just seeing things that maybe we aren’t… Why don’t we have him be an asset for us?”

The board reviewed the platform, saw the long-term value, and made the move. Kalos officially transitioned to Overflow in June.

The Results: A Financial Shift and Seamless Support

Stock Giving: From Clunky to Game-Changing

Previously, Kalos had a Fidelity account and could technically accept stock, but the process was difficult for both staff and donors.

“There were at least three donors that I said, ‘Hey, I don’t think I can accept your stock donation.’ Two of those donors actually gave via stock this last year through Overflow.”

Since implementing Overflow:

“In 7 years, we brought in about $40,000 total in stock donations. In 9 months of having Overflow, we’ve brought in over $200,000.”

That includes major gifts, $70,000 and $50,000, respectively, and opened a new path for long-term stewardship. Kalos now keeps a portion of their stock portfolio invested, aiming for long-term growth.

“We went from 4 or 5% of our assets in the market to now it’s like 30%… hopefully we can leave something for the next generation.”

Migration: Fast and Surprisingly Simple

“We were 75% migrated in like 3 weeks. And we hit 90% within 2 months… At this point, we’re 100% migrated.”

Like any data transition, there were hiccups. Some emails were mismatched. Some donation amounts weren’t pre-populated accurately. But overall?

“We’re satisfied with the process of migrating and the support we had throughout… No one was worried about it.”

Even during the heart of the migration, while Kalos’ pastors were overseas for an entire month, the system held up smoothly.

“We weren’t freaking out. We were just fine.”

Tax Receipts: Mid-Year Switch, No Problem

Switching giving platforms mid-year can be stressful, especially come tax season. Andrew expected chaos. What he got was peace of mind.

“I was feeling like tax receipts were gonna be an ordeal… and it wasn’t. I had maybe 3 or 4 issues out of 400 donors. I was really impressed.”

Data: Clarity That Helps Stewardship

Kalos isn’t just using Overflow for processing, they’re using it for insight.

“I love that on the homepage I can see how this month’s giving compares to last month in percentage. That’s huge when forecasting.”

And when giving trends shift?

“It’s nice to be able to run quick reports… These are the people who gave last month but didn’t give this month. Oh yeah, they lost their job. Of course.”

That clarity helps Andrew not just manage budgets, but care for people.
