HighPoint Church in Friendswood, Texas was ready to build a permanent home. After years of being portable and growing steadily post-pandemic, the church had secured 13 acres of land and was dreaming big for the future.
But they knew something had to happen first.
In order to move forward, they needed to retire over $1.4 million in debt. It was a bold ask, especially for a church with an average attendance around 500. But Pastors Scott and Kelly Niemeier believed it could be done.
“It didn’t make logical sense, but we knew it was what God was calling us to do,” Kelly said. “We had to trust that if He gave the word, He would provide the way.”
What happened next wasn’t just provision. It was miraculous timing, and a story that’s still unfolding.
Get Ready For a Miracle
Earlier that year, the team at HighPoint had been introduced to Overflow. They had heard that Overflow made it simple for churches to accept a multitude of assets, including stock, crypto, donor-advised funds, and traditional digital giving.
At the time, they didn’t need to use it. But it aligned with something Kelly had been praying about for a while: how to make giving easier.
“I kept hearing this phrase, ‘low-lying fruit.’ If someone feels called to give, it needs to be simple and immediate. You shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to be obedient.”
So they signed up for Overflow. They got everything in place, even though they weren’t sure when they’d need it.
And when the time came, they were ready.
Over $1 Million in Just Four Days
When HighPoint launched their debt retirement campaign in the fall, they gave their church eight weeks to raise the full amount. Pastors Scott and Kelly shared the vision, trusting that God would move in people’s hearts.
Four days later, two business leaders came forward and offered to give a combined $1 million.
One of them gave his entire gift through Overflow using a stock donation. Months later, he discovered just how impactful that decision was.
“He didn’t even talk to his CPA before he gave it. He just obeyed. But his CPA told him, had he not given that stock, he would owe $489,000 to the IRS this year. Instead, he owed $2,000.”
The donor hadn’t planned it that way. He gave out of obedience. But because HighPoint had already set up Overflow, the gift was easy to make, and the impact was multiplied.
“He would’ve given it either way. God made it clear—if you hadn’t given it to the church, you would’ve given it to someone else. So now look what it’s doing in the Kingdom.”
Using Tap to Drive Church Engagement
In addition to non-cash gifts like stock and donor-advised funds, HighPoint also adopted Overflow Tap, a physical NFC device that allows people to give or take action simply by tapping their phone.
They used Tap for event signups, small groups, connection cards, and more.
“We trained people from the stage. We walked through it together. Once our church got the hang of it, we saw new engagement come in through Tap in ways we hadn’t before.”
For a church looking to meet people where they are, Tap helped make generosity and involvement feel second nature.
A Legacy of Generosity
By the end of the year, HighPoint Church had paid off the full $1.475 million debt. They also raised an additional $200,000 for missions. Their outward focus never wavered.
In May, they’ll host a worship night on their land. Families will gather to pray and symbolically stake out the footprint of their future building. Tent stakes will be placed throughout the property, marking the future sanctuary, children’s spaces, youth ministry, and more.
Later in the year, they’ll launch a three-year capital campaign built on the same foundation that carried them through the last one: faith, vision, and the ability to act quickly when God moves.
“We were prepared to be prepared. God had told us, ‘Be prepared to be prepared.’ That’s what Overflow helped us do.”
Overflow’s Impact on HighPoint Church
For HighPoint, Overflow wasn’t just a giving platform. It was part of the infrastructure they needed to support bold moves of faith.
- It allowed the church to accept large stock gifts without delay or confusion.
- It created space for new engagement through simple tools like Tap.
- It helped align the church’s heart for generosity with modern, secure giving experiences.
“We wanted to be ready before the miracle. Overflow gave us a way to be prepared ahead of time.”
Making Giving Easy for the Next Generation
