A Simple Question That Changed Everything

“We weren’t looking to switch giving platforms.” “We were trying to get rid of paper connect cards… Could we replace our paper cards with something digital?”

At Chestnut Mountain Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia, transformation didn’t start with a capital campaign or a technology overhaul. It started with a small request from the guest services team: Could we replace our paper cards with something digital?

Brandon Sloan, Executive Pastor of Programming and a lifelong member of the church took the challenge. He wasn’t looking to replace their giving platform. But when he dug into options, he discovered Overflow at Growleader Conference.

What started as a misunderstood tool for forms became a breakthrough in giving and connection.

Tap First, Then Everything Changed

Pastor Brandon launched Overflow Tap first: small discs installed in every seatback that allowed people to tap their phones to give, register, or request prayer.

“We tried QR codes. They weren’t private enough. Tap let people respond in the moment, privately, personally.”

Tap worked so well that they launched Overflow Giving just one week later. They weren’t chasing innovation, they were answering a simple ministry need. And what happened next surprised everyone.

When Technology Becomes Ministry

What began as a tool for digital connection became something deeper:

  • Recurring giving grew by 25% in just eight weeks
  • 123% of original recurring gift volume was transitioned
  • Three stock gifts received, including one for $10,000
“I thought I was just adding Tap. I didn’t realize I was unleashing a new culture of generosity.”  - Brandon Sloan

More than numbers, Brandon saw spiritual impact:

“People tapped to request prayer. Some met with pastors. A few even gave their lives to Christ. We didn’t expect Tap to become a ministry tool, but that’s exactly what it is now.”

Overflow didn’t just improve giving. It created more moments for ministry to happen in real time.

Smooth Migration, Big Results

Brandon led communications while Overflow’s migration team handled the technical side. Their rollout included:

  • Pastor scripts & Sunday-stage announcements
  • Overflow Tap launch the week before Giving
  • Email & text reminders
  • One-on-one follow-ups for reoccurring givers
“We didn’t do anything crazy. We just followed Overflow’s plan and it worked.”

A Church Growing in Every Direction

Chestnut Mountain averages about 1,200–1,300 people in attendance on a given Sunday, with 200–300 children each week. The congregation skews younger, making Tap and mobile-first giving a natural fit.

Looking ahead, the leadership team is excited about using Overflow in new ways over the coming year to support where God is leading the church next. While details are still forming, the focus remains clear: making it easier for people to engage, give, and take meaningful next steps.

“Overflow helps us prepare for what’s next. We’re growing fast and now we have tools that grow with us.”
